Brookline Residence
Brookline, Massachusetts

Among the challenges of renovating existing town homes are: maximizing available daylight, connecting spaces to the outdoors, replacing HVAC and electrical systems as well as making the most of small kitchen and bath spaces. This project required all of the above, and involved equal parts architecture and interior design.

In this classic split-level four story building, the lower level includes a media room which opens out to a garden terrace. The first floor living area has an entry terrace at street level in the front and French doors to a breakfast deck in the rear. The second floor features a primary bedroom suite and large home office. The third floor includes two bedrooms with en-suite baths. Each level is updated with satin white Oak floors, custom painted built-in display and storage cabinets, high efficiency HVAC, home audio and LED lighting.

The interior design focused on minimally rendered surfaces, the use of family legacy rugs and a variety of vintage mid-century modern antiques. Special consideration was given to the owners’ collection of South African indigenous and contemporary art.
