Fire Island Residence
Fire Island, New York
Perched atop a large dune on the southern shore of Long Island, this summer house was commissioned by a young family who desired an open, light-filled house with views of the ocean from all main rooms.
The design is based on a linear arrangement of rooms overlooking the Atlantic which are organized around a dramatic two-story living space. A “bridge” gallery suspended from soaring arched ceiling beams connects the master suite to the other bedrooms on the second floor.
Viewed from the beach, the vaulted roof form echoes the soft dunes of the surrounding landscape. The front facade stands free of the main body of the house providing private deck spaces off the bedrooms and sun protection for the large expanses of south facing glass.
